Kimie Okinoi is a full
time housewife and mother of two children. She used to do her knitting within
her local handicraft circle, so coming to our workshop at the Tokyo Textile
Institute presented her with many new and unfamiliar challenges. She settled
down in no time at all and it wasn't long before her views about knitting
were becoming much broader. She is continuing to take short courses at the
Tokyo Textile Institute, and has been battling hard to find her own direction.
Trying out new knitting materials, such as used video or audio tape, is
one example of this process, and she is endeavouring to exploit the inner
qualities of these unusual 'threads'.
