'Rainbow Net'

interplay

Interplay Design & Manufacturing Inc. - the joint company of Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam and Adam MacAdam, has become a small part of the Nova Scotia economy around Bridgetown. Several important parts of the process now make use of local skills, and to some extent industrial methods have replaced some of the most intensive hand work. They now have a catalog of 'off-the peg' designs, featuring, amongst others, the 'B-bob I', the 'B-bob II', the 'Moon Walk', the 'Air Pocket' and the 'Space Net'. The large wooden poles that support the nets are made out of teak by a boat maker who specialises in mast making. With the decline of the Nova Scotia fishing industry he has been only to happy to diversify into other areas. Similarly, a local netmaking company, IMP Marine Supplers, is producing machine woven portions of the nets.

Interplay Design & Manufacturing Inc. illustrates a fascinating and rare transition between fine and applied art, but above all it represents the outcome of the creative drive and passion of a remarkable textile artist.
